Yumbu Lakhang

With a history of more than 2,000 years, Yumbu Lakhang is the first palace ever built in Tibet. The murals inside the palace potries vividly the historical figures and other things.

Jokhang Temple: Built in 647AD, and located in the centre of old town Lhasa, it is one of the earliest constructions in Tibet. Its roof is covered with gold, making much of a sight. A large number of precious cultural relics are preserved in the temple, among which the golden statue of Sakyamuni, brought to Tibet by the Princess Wencheng, is the most famous. Walls along Lobbies and inner temples are covered with legendary frescoes.

Drepung Monastery: Built in 1416 and located at the northwest suburb 5 km from Lhasa, it is the largest of the six shamanist monasteries in China. It occupies a land area of 250,000 square metres and had once housed 10,000 monks, among whom many became buddhist talents. The 5th Dalai Lama lived here before he moved to Potala Palace. There are abundence of historic relics and buddhist scriptures in Drepung Monastery.

NorbulinKa: located at the west suburb of Lhasa, it was constructed during 1740s, and is 36 hectres in area. The standing minister of Tibet by Qing Government ordered the first palace to be built for the recreation of the 7th Dalai Lama; later, the 8th, 13th, 14th, Dalai Lamas also built their own palaces here. After 200 years extension and managment, it has become one of the typical Tibetan Palaces adn gardens. The Dadenmingjiu Palace, whic meas the new Palace, built by the 14th Dalai Lama, is the grandest,m with temples, palaces and villas composed together, Dalai Lamas, from the 7th down, all spent summers here, while doing business. Now, people get to Norbulingka with tents and foods on holidays, dancing and singing through day and night.
